Ms. Powell

Since childhood teaching has always been a dream. In high school I became a member of the Future Teachers of America Club. After losing my biggest fan and supporter (My Mother) at the age of sixteen, I gave up my dream. At the age of 24, I revisited that dream, and I started my journey. After moving to North Carolina, I started a career in Mental Health that I really enjoyed. At the age of 50, the yearning to teach returned to my heart. Because of my Mental Health Degree and experience, I wanted to become an Exceptional Children Teacher; therefore, I returned to school for EC classes. To start teaching without my education degree, I entered the Lateral Entry Program for teachers to complete their education degree and receive licensure. I was able to transfer my previous Elementary Education credits to the program. This path was the best and happiest journey of my life . I love teaching for the joy of helping others grow. Born To Teach!!!

I am employed by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a K-12 Exceptional Children Teacher. (10 years) I am trained and certified in Orton-Gillingham and Foundation of Reading. At present, I am taking classes to add to my current license as a reading specialist. It is my firm belief that reading development starts at birth and continues throughout life.

Ms. McLeod

I have wanted to be an educator since I was a young girl.

I started my educational journey at 14 as a teacher’s assistant through the The Community and Economic Development Association(CEDA) program in Chicago . After high school, I matriculated  to Tennessee State University where I studied Speech Pathology and Audiology  with a minor in Special Education.

After graduating, I became a  Speech and Language Paraprofessional for 10 years. I then ran a Home Day Care for 3 years and returned to my Speech career for another 10 years. I then decided to obtain my Master’s degree in Special Education from Grand Canyon University.

I have worked with students from pre-K through high school with varying disabilities, and levels.  I have tutored adults and youth through the years in person and virtually.

I currently work as a General Curriculum Resource teacher in Middle School and an ESL teacher at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte.

The Why In Our Tutoring Program

Ms. McLeod

I decided to tutor this fall because  I wanted to provide one on one attention to student’s academic needs.

I believe that learning is continuous and can be made fun and engaging even in after school hours.

I

Ms. Powell

I decided to tutor this fall to assist students that struggled throughout the school year. I just want to give them the tools for learning for the upcoming school year.

I believe that if we help students develop  learning  skills; hence, they will  grow.  Keep those wheels rolling!
